Rusty Rave Monday - Polished-Off Projects

It's been a long while...Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and coming up on Valentines Day, already.  Well, how time flies...

Christmas was awesome!  I flew my Son, his wife and my granddaughter out for the week.  It was the best present ever for everyone in our family!  Then I flew to Calgary to be with my husband for a week until New Years, and my husband and I just got back from a business trip in Newport Beach last week...busy!

 

It has been in my plans to make a Valentine's Day bunting, but I hadn't gotten to it yet.  It may not have happened at all, were it not for my oldest daughter...she came for a visit this last weekend and brought the supplies to make them.  She and I hadn't even discussed it, but just must have been on the same wave length.  Cool, I can check that one off!

 Anyway, I hope you have a happy one!  I probably won't be posting again before then, I've got so much in the works...my life is crazy and unsettled, but I guess, I wouldn't want it any other way!

Also, here's my finished, $5, rickety, vintage ladder, that I was excited about in my last post.  

I tried home-made chalk paint and painted-over-the-paint in seafoam green, with a dry brush to get the blotchy coverage.  I love how it turned out...just what I had pictured in my mind.  Now on to the next big thing!

Plum Perfect Friday - We're On the Same Page...

Just wanted to quickly show off my bookpage tree display! Love them, but they were extremely time consuming to construct...I won't be making more any time soon, but I'm glad that I now have them, and that they are DONE!

Plum Perfect Friday - Tartan and Traditional!

I've missed not blogging for the past several months. I have been doing a lot of traveling, turned '50' and had my first grandbaby! Thought I'd better get back to it...and "IT" started with a wreath makeover.

...to go along with the tartan bows and tree skirt.

I usually do maroon and forest green, but decided to change it up a bit this year, and I'm loving the red and white.

I saw these sheet music ornaments on Pinterest and had to make some.

So cute, I love the way they turned out!

Here again is my "famous" tarnished silver bowl that I acquired recently. It is so versatile...I have used it in various centerpiece displays already! (More shredded sheet music...I adore it!)

I have always liked tartan plaid, and pulled it from the archives this year to mix with the musical scores.

My old door gets a new wreath with some more music scrolls. Simple and understated.

My coffee table vingette with more tartan plaid and a fun framed verse. (The book page tree idea came from here. Isn't it fun!)

Three Wise Women would have...

Asked directions,

This is one of my favorite "new" acquisitions this year. I found this fabulous vintage song book on eBay. I'm pretty sure my mother had one very similar to this when we were growing up.

She loved to sing and had a fabulous voice. She was a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir at one time during her life. But every time she sang in any choir, I could always single out, and actually hear her voice! I remember us gathered around the piano and her teaching us to sing many beautiful songs, not just at Christmas, but all through the year.

I am absolutely in love with this!

Plum Perfect Friday - Deck the Halls!

I have been counting down the days, and looking so forward to this week, for my oldest daughter, Kaitlin, to come for Christmas this year! I left a lot of the decorating undone in anticipation of her assistance. Sometimes ya just need a fresh young mind to play off of...plus it is so much more enjoyable than doing it all yourself! AND, she is pretty darn creative, in her own right!

Decorating my mostly white Christmas tree...I love this picture...they are both stunning!

What a lovely job!

We tried the nativity in a new location this year.

It was her idea to hang the silver bulbs randomly under the long shelf...I love the end result!

Attaching the glittery twigs to the picket fence was another one of Kaitlin's fabulous ideas...

Very cool!

The girl is also a skilled photographer, check out these vignette photos...

We are fond of gleaming ornaments in ,many unexpected places...

...I'm real happy with the new place for the garland! Kaitlin came up with a fantastic way to fasten it, is there anything she can't do?

The best part about it all is the time spent together, and enjoying the beauty of the season...But, I'm glad it's finally done!

Rusty Rave Monday - Candleholder Revamp

Time to be amazed once again...I got my hands on this FABULOUS candleholder for $1 at a garage sale last Friday. It's astounding, I know! I love the base, but right away, I knew that I was going to dispense with the black "holder" on top!

Before I bought it, I checked to see if would unscrew easily. (However, I think I would have purchased it nonetheless...how can you go wrong with $1? I would have figured out a way to remove it, anyway!)

After I got it off, I thought it looked out of proportion, so I got the idea to add a small metal plate to the top. I had a gold, 5" diameter one on hand and just painted it, scuffed it up a bit, drilled a hole in the center...

then screwed it where the former mounting had been.

Done! I think it's much more attractive this way, and it was such an easy fix.

(I think I'm OBSESSED with searching for inexpensive objects to restyle...I really am!)

It's a great new addition to my anytime decor, but I especially like it with the Christmas trimmings...


...and it will unquestionably amuse me to discover what I can do with it after the holidays!
