My Favorite "Reads"!
As much as I adore gathering treasures to remake, I like to collect decorating books and magazines, and I do it much the same way...by being thrifty! I frequent book stores and always check the mark-down area for home decorating books to add to my assortment, and each time I unquestionably cannot wait to get it home to peruse over it's pages.

I have them all over the house!

This "Decorating, Cottage Style" has to be one of my all-time favorite inspirational books, and I absolutely adore this issue of Victoria Magazine's "Classic Rooms of Bliss", for that is just what they are! You have to get a copy of this and cherish it forever! (It is currently available on newsstands.)

The Better Homes and Gardens books are usually a good bet and I can always find something fun in them...and of course Country Living! I picked this one up in Canada recently, (I'm not sure if they are sold in the U.S. anymore) but I get 'em where I can!

I love the title on the cover of this Country Home Mag...Decorate With What You Love, because that is what it's all about!

As sisters in the blogging world we all share an intense passion for this stuff and it has been immensely enjoyable for me to partake in a whole new world of shared ideas through your blogs! To all of you out there in blogger land, thanks for the exchange, and the new outlet I have found to add to the mix!
Have a fabulous day!

What I've been up to!
I've been here and there during this summer, and these are some of the things that I have picked up along the way.

I visited my sister in July and she had a whole cabinet full of goodies that she let me sort through and take what I wanted...how fun is that? This candleholder is one of the items that I chose to take and redo, it totally has great details and excellent potential.

After...it turned out beautiful!

I found this little scrollie candle holder at a recent garage sale for a dollar. It was an ugly tan color, and had old wax inside it that I had to dig out. I cleaned it up then painted it, and I think it's pretty cool.

Once again, it is a thrill to me to get something for free or next to nothing and make it fabulous! Love this grouping...it is so fun to be able to change things up every so often and since the stuff comes so cheap, if I find something I like better I can just take a cue from my dear sister and put it away in a cabinet to give away to someone else. I love re-use and recycling!

This little gem was another incredible find! It's an antique silverware box that is in pretty darn good condition. I forgot to take a before photo, but it was dark brown and only had a few scratches, but the inside is perfect! I masked it , painted it, then distressed it a bit...

...I love the details of this as well, and can use this for a whole host of things...maybe even silverware!

The unbelievable interior.

Just an example of using if for stacking and adding interest.

Picked this up for 5 bucks! I really like architectural elements, but didn't much like the before color so I just whitewashed it.

Now I am extremely happy with it.

FUN, FUN, FUN! There's always more diamonds in the rough out there waiting for me to get my hands on them!

Vintage Hook Shelf

I saw this in Country Living Magazine, and got the idea from Sweet Savannah's blog and resolved to make my own version of the two.

Here are the pieces that I had cut at Home Depot. They can be as long or as short as you like, mine is 30 inches long, but I am going to make several different lengths.
You need a wood plank and some molding of your choice.
Then glue and clamp the pieces in place.

Let dry for an hour or so, then if you want to make it look like it is all one piece, you can caulk the seams. If you want a more vintage look, don't even worry about that step! I decided to go ahead and caulk all the seams.

Sand, distress, paint, then maybe distress some more!
I think I'm going to add hooks, but the clothespin idea could be cute too, or cute drawer pulls might be an idea, as well...(I saw some at Anthropologie) hmmmmm, so many options, so little time! I'm going shopping for the remaining elements...so stay tuned for the completed project!

I was the Giveaway Winner at Something Special!
This is a thrill! I'm new to these giveaways, and I have already won! (I guess it's beginners luck!) Here's what I received for the "Welcome Baby Maddox" Blue Giveaway from Michele at Something Special. I love it all, I especially was coveting the beautiful teapot, which is my favorite item of all! Thanks so much, Michele!! It is so much fun to meet new friends this way.
